Waxing FAQs

It depends on your tolerance for discomfort. Try to keep in mind that you are removing the hair from the root, but our fabulous wax specialists will make sure you are as comfortable as possible. The first few times are the worst but as your growth gets finer and more sparse it becomes much less painful.

We recommend to grow your hair for at least 2 weeks after shaving. If the hair is too short, there may be some little hairs left behind that the wax won’t be able to grab onto. Generally, 0.5-1cm is a good length (depending on your hair type)

Depending on the area, usually your wax will last between 3–4 weeks but everyone’s rate of regrowth is different so results will vary.

Firstly, congratulations! Secondly, yes, you can still wax. However, you may experience more skin sensitivity due to the hormonal changes your body is going through. Our wax specialists will make you as comfortable as possible during the service.

Unfortunately we can not wax you if you are on Roaccutane. It’s very dangerous to wax while on Roaccutane and we recommend waiting at last 6 months after taking it before you can start waxing. Please always let us know if you are currently/or just finished taking it.

When there is a build up of dead skin, the new hair that is growing back struggles to break through so starts to grow sideways under the skin instead. To avoid this, we recommend exfoliating regularly (particularly when the hair is starting to grow back) If you are experiencing really stubborn ingrowns, try using a bump eraser product

Waxing / Brazilian Waxing Aftercare

Although we can not predict or guarantee who may react, most clients do not experience reactions beyond redness and minor irritation. Hair may break at the root during waxing, if hair is thin or weak, causing some hairs to grow out faster.

Please follow these guidelines to minimize irritation and possible break outs;

Immediately after waxing

It’s normal immediately after your wax for a little bit of redness to appear. This should disappear after a few hours, however, because waxing removes the hair at the root, it’s important that you keep the area clean and bacteria free. The following guidelines will help to avoid any skin irritations that may occur after your wax.

3-10 Days after Waxing

As you skin closes over the follicles, the next consideration is to ensure you prevent ingrown hairs. This is when new, often softer hair can get trapped under the skin. A few simple measures can easily avoid this situation and prevent ingrown hairs.

  • Avoid the sun immediately after waxing and wear sun screen; recently waxed areas are prone to hyper pigmentation(permanent darkening of the skin) if exposed to the sun or solarium.
  • Avoid saunas, steam rooms, whirlpools and other heated sources for at least 48 hours.
  • Avoid heavy exercise for at least 24 hours after waxing.
  • No deodorant after underarm waxing
  • No make-up after facial waxing.
  • Avoid tight clothing after waxing, especially in the waxed areas. Tight clothing may result in irritation and ingrown hairs. We recommend you wear cotton undies after your Brazilian wax.
  • No hot baths, hot showers or sexual activity for 24 hours after a Brazilian. While your pores are open, they are vulnerable to irritation by the extreme temperatures and infection by bacteria.
  • Do not use exfoliating products (AHAs, scrubs, etc) and loofas for at least 24hours after waxing as they might further irritate your skin.
  • Regular twice to three times per week exfoliation using a mitt/glove is helpful to remove dead skin so your hairs can get out above the surface of the pores and not become ingrown.
  • Moisturise with a tee tree, lavender or witch hazel lotion after every shower, this has a soothing, healing, antibacterial effect. If using an ingrown solution, use this alone until the in-growns and redness is minimised, then return to the lotion for maintaining your bikini area.
  • Routine waxing helps the skin get accustomed to the procedure and may minimize irritation. We recommend you re-book your next treatment every 4 – 6 weeks.
