Beauty & Bronze FAQs
Our salon is located in Cookson Street, Camberwell- across the road from Camberwell Train Station. The entrance to the building is next to Collective Espresso- walk up the first flight of stairs and we are located on level 1. Unfortunately there is no lift (the building is over 100 years old).
There is parking (ticket) available on either sides of Cookson Street, varying from 1-4 hour paid parking. However if you prefer not to pay for parking there is free 2 hour parking available further up Cookson St (heading east).
Please make sure you park in a suitable spot that allows sufficient time for your full appointment. Unfortunately all appointments require the full amount of time so you won’t be able to leave to update your parking.
Unfortunately no. However if you do require assistance we are more than happy to help with prams or support, just give us a call when you arrive.
Spray Tan FAQs
We always recommend to tan 1-2 days before your event to ensure you the colour has fully developed and settled. Although we have express solutions that you can rinse off after a few hours, they still require a minimum of 8 hours to develop so it is not ideal to tan on the same day as your event.
Waxing (if required) must be done at least 24 hrs prior to spray tanning.
Shaving can be done on the day, before your spray tan appointment. Please ensure you thoroughly cleanse the area after to ensure there are no ‘shaver lines’ left.
If you are using a tan eraser product, please use at least 24 hours before as this changes the pH of your skin and can cause the bronzers to turn green.
Shower & exfoliate your skin to remove dead skin cells to ensure skin is smooth and well prepared for your spray tan application. The better the exfoliation, the better the spray tan will be and the longer it will last.
Once you are here, we will provide you with a hair net, disposable string (you can wear your own underwear or nothing whatever you are comfortable in) and some sticky feet. We always recommend to bring some loose dark clothes and some thongs to wear home after your tan.
Depending on your solution there are different guidelines on when and how to rinse off your tan.
8 hour solution- shower after a minimum of 8 hours with soap to ensure you get all the cosmetic bronzer off.
Express Solutions- you can shower off in 1-3 hours depending on the depth of colour you are after. It is important that you use NO soap, shampoo or cleansers in this shower. It is just a 30 second rinse. Your colour won’t really show after this shower and will continue to develop.
Depending on how well you exfoliated prior to your tan and how quickly your cells turn over you can expect 5-7 days from your spray tan. To extend the life of your spray tan, use a Tan Extender that has a gradual tan to slowly build up your colour, whilst your spray tan fades.
Not to worry! Changes in the pH of the skin is what causes the green. When we sweat it shifts the colour of the bronzer making the red inactive, leaving you with blue and yellow = green. Some skins don’t even need to sweat to have this reaction.
This can also be caused by using a tan eraser too close to getting a spray tan. These products are very high in pH!
When you shower, only about 80% of the bronzers wash off which is why you still look green after your shower.
By your second or third shower, all the bronzer will have washed off and the green will go away.
It is impossible for you actual skin to turn green from the tan, it is just the cosmetic bronzer that needs to be rinsed off properly.
Absolutely! DHA (the active ingredient) doesn’t penetrate the skin or enter the blood stream. If you are concerned about inhaling the solution, ask your therapist for a mask to cover your mouth and nose.
Waxing FAQs
It depends on your tolerance for discomfort. Try to keep in mind that you are removing the hair from the root, but our fabulous wax specialists will make sure you are as comfortable as possible. The first few times are the worst but as your growth gets finer and more sparse it becomes much less painful.
We recommend to grow your hair for at least 2 weeks after shaving. If the hair is too short, there may be some little hairs left behind that the wax won’t be able to grab onto. Generally, 0.5-1cm is a good length (depending on your hair type)
Depending on the area, usually your wax will last between 3–4 weeks but everyone’s rate of regrowth is different so results will vary.
To ensure the wax grips on to each hair, your hairs must be atleast 1cm long at the very minimum. When hairs have been recently shaved or it hasn’t been long enough between appointments your hairs will be too short and will not come out meaning there will be patches of hairs left. Unfortunately we can not spend more than a minute or so tweezing individual hairs.
Firstly, congratulations! Secondly, yes, you can still wax. However, you may experience more skin sensitivity due to the hormonal changes your body is going through. Our wax specialists will make you as comfortable as possible during the service.
Unfortunately we can not wax you if you are on Roaccutane. It’s very dangerous to wax while on Roaccutane and we recommend waiting at last 6 months after taking it before you can start waxing. Please always let us know if you are currently/or just finished taking it.
When there is a build up of dead skin, the new hair that is growing back struggles to break through so starts to grow sideways under the skin instead. To avoid this, we recommend exfoliating regularly (particularly when the hair is starting to grow back). If you are experiencing really stubborn ingrowns, try using a bump eraser product.
To ensure a clean removal with minimal hair breakage we recommend exfoliating the area several days prior to your appointment. This will remove any dry skin that can build up and trap hairs under the skin (aka ingrowns) and also helps make your appointment less painful as the wax won’t be lifting old skin, just the hairs!
Lash Lift FAQs
We recommend leaving atleast 6-8 weeks between your lash lift. Each client’s lashes are so different and grow at different rates however for a perfect lash lift every time we ask that each lash has completely grown out and there are no curled lashes left.
Lifting over existing lash lift is extremely damaging to your already permed lashes and can cause breakout and premature shedding or even over curling.
The short answer is no. When you have a lash lift your natural lashes are lifted and curled near the base of the hair. When we apply lash extensions, the false lash needs to be adhered to a section of the natural lash that is straight for proper bonding otherwise the false lash will fall off quickly. We recommend waiting until your lashes are completely grown out or it has been atleast 10 weeks since you’ve had a lash lift.
Results vary from person to person. However we often see our clients every 6-8 weeks depending on how quickly their lashes grow out. As your lashes grow, some will be nearing the end of their lash cycle. Don’t be alarmed this is the natural life cycle of the lash and a new lash will grown in it’s place.
No, you will need to have your extensions removed and then wait at least 2 days before we can lift them.
Firstly, congratulations! Secondly, yes! The treatment is only applied to the hair and not to the skin. You will be lying on your back for around 45 minutes, so we have pillows handy to place under your legs or back if you need to roll to one side for extra comfort.
The tint is part of the service as we add your keratin treatment in along with your tint. You can choose not to have this part of the service however the cost is still the same.
Sadly this happens a lot! And although we are able to reverse/ relax a lash lift we don’t relax lash lifts that have been done at another salon. With so many different products on the market it’s impossible for us to provide a safe relaxing treatment. We highly recommend returning to the salon you received your initial treatment from and ask them to relax your lashes.
Lash Extensions FAQs
Eyelash extensions in Melbourne are individual, long-lasting lashes. Silk eyelashes are applied directly onto your natural lashes using a low fume glue which bonds in 3 seconds. This gives natural lashes the appearance of being thicker and longer. Every eye is different and can have anywhere from 80-120 natural lashes on it.
You will be pampered and relaxed for 30 minutes to 2 hours depending on the desired lash look. Touch-ups take less time; approximately 30-60 minutes. Your natural lashes will need to be completely free of all make-up and oil based products. Your eyes will be closed and protected throughout the procedure. Most clients fall asleep as we play gentle calming music to help you unwind in a private lash suite.
When applied properly and with proper care, your eyelash extensions will adhere for the entire cycle of hair growth, approximately 3-6 weeks depending on the individual. Natural eyelashes are shed on a regular basis. This may result in multiple extension loss on any given day (roughly 2 lashes per eye per day). When the natural lash is shed the synthetic lash will fall with it alternatively the glue can breakdown and the silk lash will fall off. Touch-up applications will be necessary every 2-4 weeks to maintain a full lash line.
Hybrid lashes are a mix of classic lashes (1:1 lash) and volume lashes (3-10 lashes in a fan: 1 natural lash). Each volume fan is handmade by your lash artist during your appointment and placed on a single natural lash. Each fan varies in density according to each of your natural lashes.
Volume lashes are fans made up of anywhere between 3-10 lashes which sit on one natural lash. These are individually made throughout your appointment and the amount per fan is determined by the density of the client’s natural lash.
We definitely DON’T recommend this as the ingredients in mascara can help breakdown the glue which will mean your lashes will fall off quicker than usual. Wearing mascara on hybrid and volume lashes will bunch your fans together creating a ‘spider leg’ look defeating the purpose of having volume lashes.
Of course. However please be mindful that each salon and lash artist have different techniques and varying levels of experience. Keep an open mind that you may not get the desired look after just one visit, this is an art form, not a perfect science. On your first visit with us we usually require more time to match the sizes previously applied (ie. if you’re due for a 2 week refill, please book in a 3 week refill) and to also remove any rogue lashes. If your exisiting lashes haven’t been applied correctly we may even suggest a removal.
Certainly. However the change will take a few appointments for the full look to take affect. Please note that if you are moving from a natural set to a full set you will need a longer appointment also.
